A year ago I went to interview cut flower grower Milli Proust and her partner Ted Dwane, who as well as being the bassist for rock band Mumford & Sons, has started his own cider making business. Visiting their home with photographer Eva Nemeth (whose photographs illustrate this piece), I had the most lovely day wandering round their magical garden and woodland, holding baby Rex while Milli was being photographed, and listening to Ted play the guitar in his studio, a converted circus wagon. Their tiny two-up-two-down cottage is hidden away in a forgotten corner of Sussex. Straight out of a Helen Allingham painting, the half-timbered cottage is cocooned by ancient woodland with views over an idyllic meadow. Since 2017 they have been living the good life here, Milli growing flowers, Ted keeping bees and growing cider apples.
