Seasonal Planting Series
Spring seems to have sprung this week and you’re probably itching to get going in the garden. If you’re planning a new border or planting scheme, this is the time to order plants so you can get them in before the weather gets too warm and dry. More on ordering plants next week. First, I want to take you through how I make a seasonal planting list. In previous posts, I have talked about the individual building blocks of the border - Structure, Colour, and Shapes & Silhouettes (with links in case you missed them). Now comes the fun part - putting all the plants you have chosen together to create a cohesive scheme. A good first step is to organise your final list of plants into seasons, to make sure you have at least a couple of plants to provide interest at different times of the year. The outline below looks at the types of plants that come into play in the various seasons with examples from one of my own borders.
